This a poignant retelling of an ageless Parable of the Prodigal Son. When John gives a ride to David, a runaway youth hitchhiking home, he has no way to anticipate how deeply his life will be effected by their brief encounter. David's desire to be reconciled with his family and willingness to ask for forgiveness-along with his family's welcome at his homecoming-so impress the older man that he also decides to reconcile with his parents after 62 years. As John shares these stories of reconciliation with his teenage granddaughter, Jennifer, some 15 years later, he helps her gain better perspective on her own problems. These stories of John, David and Jennifer, characters from three generations, echo Jesus' message of God's love and forgiveness as found in the parable of the prodigal Son and throughout the Gospels. This is an updated and expanded version of the Franciscan Communications classic, Pardon and Peace.
