Title: VISION OF VATICAN II FOR TODAY: THE ROOTS OF VATICAN II, THE
Vatican Council II (1962-65) created a new vision of the Catholic Church for the Third Millennium. The Council was a new Pentecost that will reshape the Church for centuries to come. In this five-part video series, Father Michael Himes looks at the theological background to the Council, some of the revolutionary teachings of the Council itself and then how the wisdom and insights of the Council guides us today. One hundred years before Vatican II, John Henry Cardinal Newman (1801-1890) -often called the ìFatherî of the Second Vatican Council - was writing and teaching the ideas that would come to fruition at the Council. In this first video Fr. Himes examines Newmanís ideas and how the whole Church is challenged to live out the roles of priest, prophet and king in our era. Fr. Himesí teaching is interspersed with historical pictures, artwork, graphics and enacted scenes.
