Title: WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO BE CALLED?
In this first of three talks Father Richard Rohr uses as his scriptural basis John 15-16. You did not choose. I choose. It is important to know that we are loved and chosen by God. If our ministry is not grounded in choseness and election, it is not really a desire for union with God but a desire for identity, for power and for security. We, as the apostle Paul are called to communicate this choseness to others so they may also experience chosenness. Romans 11 states that God has chosen us out of Godís mercy - not out of good deeds or worthiness. It is all gift and becomes in the Bible the central of grace. Rohr believes that we can only change people in so far as you have been changed. We must trust our own experience of being chosen, of being beloved, of being elect.
