Title: CTR: CALL TO REFLECTION: A TEACHER'S GUIDE TO CATHOLIC IDENTITY IN THE 21ST CENTURY, A
Author Gini Shimabukuro, Ed.D. has examined Church documents on education and discovered five themes that describe the essential features of the exemplary educator in a Catholic school community. The presentation clearly indicates that our spiritual development is intimately connected with our apostolic work. This work is not to be read in one sitting but read thoughtfully and reflectively. Throughout the book are questions that we ministers should reflect upon. The book is a journal for spiritual growth and needs to be read several times over because as we deepen our relationship with Christ, our reflections will take on new directions and insight. Traditional education has addressed predominantly the mathematical-logical and linguistic intelligences. The questions stands before Catholic educators: "Do we in Catholic education, who are committed to teaching to the whole child, address other areas of intelligence?" Moreover, Catholic pedagogy demands that religious truth and values be interwoven throughout the curriculum, forming the foundation of all instruction. To teach the whole child requires a teacher who is ministerial, who individualizes instructions to the needs of each child. 86 pages.
