Title: PROPHETIC PEOPLE: LAITY AS BUILDERS OF AN ACCOUNTABLE CHURCH
Description:
The clergy sex abuse that has rocked the Catholic Church is one symptom of a deeper crisis in the way Christian mission and life are understood and lived inside and outside the Church. The address will present an overview of the global situation of the Catholic Church and examine how the theology of the laity has developed since the second Vatican Council, especially what roles have been assigned to them within and outside the Church. It will conclude by suggesting ways in which the laity can help build a Church that is faithful to its mission and truly accountable - its leaders to their people and the people to their leaders.
