This program actually includes three classic Christmas stories on one DVD. In The First Christmas Christopher Plummer narrates this reverent retelling of the Nativity story, as Joseph and Mary make a long journey from Nazareth to Bethlehem. Brought to life with the uniquely textured realism offered by stop-motion animation, and scored with a selection of classic Christmas carols, this is a holiday treat for every family. (22 min.) The Chimes is the heartwarming Charles Dickens tale about Toby Veck, a poor porter who takes special joy at the sound of bells. With so much misfortune surrounding him, Toby feels he had "no business being born," but the chimes speak to him in a dream, offering a message of new hope for the new year. (23 min.) A Christmas Gift- It is Christmas Eve and a young boy looks into the gleaming windows where tables are laden with turkey, ducks, geese and cherry pie. Then he peers in a window lit only by candlelight. He sees a gray-haired woman sitting in front of a bare table with tears in her eyes. She invites him in and takes out two glasses and fills them with her last bit of wine. She offers "a toast to everyone's Christmas, especially yours and mine." And it came to pass that the happiest Christmas was shared by candlelight. (9 min.) All three stories are done in clay animation.
