Title: EXPLORING THE SACRAMENT OF BAPTISM: BAPTISM: SACRAMENT OF BELONGING / GODPARENT GUSSIE
Description:
This DVD includes two programs on aspects of this sacrament of initiation. The first is dramatic and focuses on the deeper meanings of Christian initiation. The second is a whimsically presented history of the baptismal ritual and its origins. Both are hosted by Father Anthony Scannell, O.F.M Cap., who assists in interpreting the visual presentations. BAPTISM: SACRAMENT OF BELONGING- This 14 minute program introduces the touching story of Alfredo, a young Mexican boy orphaned by a tragic fire. Badly scarred, both physically and emotionally, by the flames, Alfredo wanders the villages of Mexico and comes upon the orphanage of Our Little Brothers and Sisters. He pleads his case to Father Wasson, its founder and director. He, in turn, presents Alfredo's story to the children, giving them the power of accepting or rejecting Alfredo. This is a powerful contemporary parable. GODPARENT GUSSIE- This 20 minute program is really a history lesson - a survey of the development of the Church's rites of initiation, undertaken through the use of humorous animation interwoven with reflective commentary by Father Anthony Scannell, O.F.M.., Cap. Godparent Gussie is the voice of everyone who wants to know the why behind the teaching and traditions underlying the first among sacraments. FREE Leader's Guide: Catalog.AmericanCatholic.org/guide
