Title: PREPARING CHILDREN FOR RECONCILIATION...IN FOUR CREATIVE WAYS
Description:
This single DVD includes four inspiring videos to help children prepare for the process of the sacrament of reconciliation. They can be viewed in any order and at any time in the sacrament preparation process. 1. HANDLE WITH CARE (9 min.) offers children five open-ended stories or moral dilemmas that involve them in discussion about "right and wrong." Its goal is conscience formation and learning to make a good moral choice. 2. RICKY'S FIRST RECONCILIATION (9 min.) actually walks children through the Rite of Penance so they will feel comfortable making their first reconciliation or celebrating the sacrament at any time. After Rickey carelessly breaks a statue, his parents forgive him, and he soon learns in religion class that God, like his parents, is loving and forgiving. Father Garcia and Ricky demonstrate to the rest of the class the four steps in the Rite of Penance. 3. KEVIN'S TEMPTATION (8 min.) is based on the famous gospel encounter between Jesus and the devil (Mt 4:1-11; Mk 1:12; Lk 4:1-13). Three times Jesus was tempted and three times he rejected the urgings of the evil one. In this story, Kevin is tempted as well, and he has to draw on faith and courage to resist. The goal of this story is to help children understand the concept of temptation and how to draw on their own faith, conscience, and courage to resist its lure. 4. RECONCILIATION: CELEBRATING FORGIVENESS (14 min.) takes place in a family home where a discussion is underway about Ben's first reconciliation. His parents are invited, but his dad is reluctant to attend. After much discussion Ben's dad changes his mind and realizes that Ben has been taught that reconciliation is a sacrament of joy and not of fear or embarrassment.
